    Outcome (goal): To increase opportunities for active healthy living by recognising and building on the strengths of a diverse population; reducing inequity; increasing social support for active healthy living; enhancing safety and crime prevention; addressing real and perceived threats to participation; effectively communicating with the public; offering campaigns and events; and, working in partnership to providing innovative programming in recreation for all ages and groups.

    Diversity and equity
    • Conduct equity reviews to demonstrate how all citizens have equal opportunity to participate in recreation programs regardless of sex, age, race, income level or ability.
    • Ensure that vulnerable populations have access to the same choices and opportunities for active healthy living as the population at large and adopt council recreation policies on gender and ethnicity equity.
    • Celebrate multiculturalism and diversity by identifying and working with various cultures in the community to promote appropriate active healthy living opportunities and to find the best solutions for overcoming common barriers.
    • Use geographic information system mapping to determine the location of active healthy living opportunities for specific population groups in the local government area (click here).
    • Prepare and implement a Multicultural Plan.
    • Prepare a Public Art policy (click here).
    Social cohesion, safety and social support
    • Support organisations working in recreation, active living, cultural expression, active transport and nature and partner with them in programs that aim to build social cohesion while increasing opportunities for active healthy living.
    • Enable safety, security and crime prevention by employing a Crime Prevention through Environmental Design principles.
    • Encourage social support through programs for families, school and workplace groups.
    • Develop a community garden program (click here).
    • Adopt a Crime Prevention through Environmental Design policy.
    • Prepare and implement an Active Healthy Program (click here).
    • Adopt a breastfeeding and baby-care facilities code in the Planning Scheme (click here).
