The Townsville Riverway offers cultural, sports, leisure, residential and commercial activities located on the banks of the Ross River. The project is a multi-node, multi-year, multi-million dollar investment. The vision is for a sport, recreation, environment and entertainment precinct stretching 11 kilometres along the river banks. The goal is to create facilities according to best practice that will enable the local community, as well as visitors to the area, to enjoy events.

The Riverway Stadium is a national standard multi-sport facility including a main oval with up to 10,000 spectator capacity, a practice oval, cricket practice wickets and nets, car parking for 250 cars, bicycle parking facilities, office space for sport association tenants, grounds maintenance, equipment storage, function and meeting rooms, and player, official and spectator amenities.
The Riverway Stadium will be owned and operated by the Townsville Regional Council through its Riverway Management Unit. Its role is to enable the growth and development of the capacity of the local sport delivery system (specifically targeting the sports of cricket and Australian Rules Football), and to enable the staging of significant sporting and entertainment events.
